Customization

Shell Configuration

You can customize your terminal using standard shell configuration files like:

  • /etc/profile
  • ~/.bashrc
  • /etc/bash/bashrc

The /initrc File

Every time a terminal session starts, the /initrc script runs. This file allows you to:

  • Set environment variables
  • Customize your prompt (PS1)
  • Source additional configuration files
  • Define shell functions and aliases
Example /initrc Configuration
bash
# Custom environment variables
export EDITOR=nano

# Custom aliases
alias ll="ls -la"
alias update="apk update && apk upgrade"

# Custom prompt (already has a fish-style path shortening by default)
# PS1="\[\033[1;32m\]\u\[\033[0m\]@localhost \[\033[1;34m\]\w\[\033[0m\] \$ "

Default Features

The default /initrc includes:

  • Fish-style path shortening in the prompt (e.g., ~/p/s/components)
  • Command-not-found handler that suggests packages to install
  • MOTD (Message of the Day) display
